Listening, Knowing, and Sonic Experience
Listening is approached as a way of knowing the world and as an embodied, culturally situated practice. This area explores the relationships among auditory perception, the formation of knowledge, and lived experience, with attention to how listening takes shape across everyday life, artistic practice, and mediated environments.
Listening as an Epistemic Practice
I approach listening as an epistemic practice, asking how listening shapes perception, interpretation, and meaning-making. Drawing on auditory epistemology and phenomenology, as well as scholarship on embodiment and sensory experience, I explore how listening functions as a way of knowing and engaging with the world.
Listening in Everyday Cultural Contexts
I examine listening as an everyday cultural practice shaped by embodied experience, media technologies, and social interaction. I am particularly interested in how auditory practices shape patterns of attention, structure everyday experience, and participate in the formation of cultural life.
